My Life

A twenty-something thirty-year-old Hawaii transplant living it up on the East Coast for the past 10 years (Boston and Stamford, CT). This blog is to document my daily adventures and things that I find cool, uncool, hilarious, awe-inspiring, and annoying. Please feel free to email me at hawaiigurlinct@gmail.com.

  • Sonja = Minibar Fail.
I never fail!  Not at obtaining reservations to the most coveted restaurants around.  Do I have an inside track to the restaurant business?  Not at all.  Instead, I have killer instincts at redialing or refreshing website pages.  In case you couldn’t tell, this “never failing” thing has made me quite cocky over the years.  But today I failed.
Every March / April I head down to DC for a weekend of sightseeing and indulgent eating and drinking in one of my favorite cities.  So my plan for this year was set: the first weekend I’m free from work (the weekend of 4/3) we would head down and spend Saturday eating at Jose Andres’s six-seater Minibar.  A perfect weekend getaway after 3 months of hard work.
So exactly 1 month in advance at 9:45 AM (even though Reservations didn’t open until 10 AM) I started calling.  For 45 minutes I called.  Outside.  In Connecticut.  While it was snowing (though not sticking).  With no jacket.  Because Greenwich does not believe in having good cell phone reception (with any company).  I was about to give up and decided that my call at 10:30 would be my last when lo and behold I didn’t get a busy signal.  I got through.  And found out that there were (at least) 12 lucky souls ahead of me (there are 2 seatings).  So I put my name on the waiting list - but pretty much will not be holding my breath that I will get a call back.
I will be trying again until I succeed!
